KABUL: At least 61 people have been martyred, 116 injured, and four remain missing following recent rain-related disasters across Afghanistan, officials said.
Mawlavi Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said in a post on X that the casualties were caused by heavy rainfall and associated flooding.
He added that 2,448 homes have been either completely or partially destroyed, more than 26,800 jeribs of agricultural land were damaged, and 1,045 livestock perished.
The National Disaster Management Authority of Afghanistan said that public infrastructures, including dams, irrigation canals, water supply networks, solar systems, and dozens of kilometers of roads, have also been damaged.
Afghanistan has been experiencing intense and severe rainfall and flooding over the past 10 days, leading to widespread destruction.
