KANDAHAR: Afghan security forces have prevented the smuggling of 60 kilograms of silver that was being transported toward Pakistan, according to officials.
Spokesperson for 205th Al-Badr Army Corps Nazeer Ahmad Shakib told Radio Omid on Wednesday that the shipment was seized in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province by the Afghan security forces.
According to him, the smugglers abandoned the silver bricks and fled after spotting Afghan patrol forces in the area.
He added that Afghan border forces also seized 46 cartons of low-quality medicine that were allegedly being smuggled into Afghanistan from Pakistan and the medicines were subsequently burned.
Authorities say Afghan security forces continue round-the-clock operations along the border to prevent the illegal movement of goods into and out of the country.
