KABUL: The European Union delegation in Afghanistan says the bloc and its partners remain committed to supporting Afghanistan and its people.
In a statement released Saturday night on the occasion of Europe Day, the EU said its commitment includes support for livelihoods, education, opportunities, and hope for Afghanistan’s future.
According to the statement, the European Union paid tribute to the dignity, resilience, and perseverance of the Afghan people in facing ongoing challenges.
“The European Union remains committed to the people of Afghanistan — their dignity, resilience, and future,” the statement said. “Every job created, every child educated and every family supported is an investment in stability and peace.”
Meanwhile, the United Nations Population Fund thanked the European Union for what it described as unwavering support for the Afghan people, saying EU assistance has helped sustain critical maternal healthcare services and psychosocial support for vulnerable communities in Afghanistan.
Europe Day is observed annually on May 9 as a symbol of peace, unity, and cooperation among EU member states.
The day commemorates the historic Schuman Declaration announced on May 9, 1950, which laid the foundation for economic cooperation among European countries and eventually led to the creation of the European Union.
