KABUL: Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Afghanistan, Fiona Frazer, has said investigations are ongoing into the attack on a drug treatment hospital in Kabul.
According to reports, Frazer met with Shaikh Sher Ahmad Haqqani, the Minister of Information and Culture to discuss the situation of the media in Afghanistan, human rights issues, and the protection of historical sites.
During the meeting, the UNAMA representative said the performance of the Ministry of Information and Culture in the media sector had improved, noting that journalists’ problems were being addressed in a timely manner and that better access to information had been created.
She also reaffirmed continued support for Afghan media and expressed hope that the investigation into the attack on the Kabul drug rehabilitation hospital would be completed.
Meanwhile, Minister Haqqani said his led-ministry supports media outlets in accordance with the law, maintains coordination with journalists based on principles, and is working to improve the economic conditions of the media sector.
