Afghan, Somali officials discuss environmental and urban cooperation at Baku Forum

KABUL: The Head of Afghanistan National Environmental Protection Agency, Mawlavi Mati-ul-Haq Khalis met with Somalia’s Minister of Urban Development and his accompanying delegation on the sidelines of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF-13) in Baku to discuss bilateral cooperation on environmental and urban issues.

According to a statement released by the National Environmental Protection Agency of Afghanistan, the meeting focused on urban development, environmental protection, and strengthening sustainable cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides also exchanged views and experiences on building modern and standard urban areas, implementing urban development plans, providing shelter for displaced families, and expanding urban services.

The promotion of clean energy, reducing the impacts of climate change, expanding green spaces, and supporting sustainable urban development, have been discussed between the two sides.

The statement added that both parties emphasized the importance of joint cooperation and the exchange of experiences in addressing the environmental and urban challenges facing the two countries.

Khalis also highlighted the importance of international forums, noting that such gatherings offer valuable opportunities to expand cooperation among countries, share experiences, and find solutions to common challenges.
