KABUL: Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, during a telephone call with António Guterres, United Nations Secretary General, called Washington’s “excessive demands and contradictory positions” the main obstacles to the negotiation process.
According to Tasnim News Agency, Araghchi said that despite Tehran’s lack of trust in the United States, Iran continues to participate seriously and responsibly in diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a “reasonable and fair” outcome.
Meanwhile, Guterres stressed the importance of adhering to the principles of the United Nations Charter and said diplomatic solutions should be pursued to preserve regional peace and stability.
The remarks come as delegations from Qatar and Pakistan are visiting Tehran in an effort to help resolve remaining differences and advance talks toward a possible agreement between Iran and the United States.
