KABUL: Shahzada Safi, a member of Afghanistan’s national wushu team, has won a bronze medal at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Asian Wushu Championships after defeating his Kazakh opponent in the 56-kilogram weight category.
The General Directorate of Olympics, Physical Education, and Sports announced that Safi is scheduled to compete on Sunday against an athlete from Hong Kong for a chance to secure the silver medal.
Earlier, Mohammad Khalid Hotak also earned Afghanistan’s first bronze medal in the competition in the 70-kilogram weight category.
The SCO Asian Wushu Championships are currently being held in China, bringing together athletes from 18 countries. Afghanistan is participating in the tournament with a delegation of six athletes.
