KABUL: The officials of the State Ministry for Disaster Management said that in the past three months, 61 mines and unexploded ordnances have detonated in the country.
The head of the Mine Clearance Department at the State Ministry for Disaster Management made the remarks today during a ceremony commemorating International Mine Awareness Day.
According to him, as a result of the mentioned mine explosions, 38 individuals have lost their lives and 71 others have been injured in the country.
The majority of victims of these mines and unexploded ordnances in the country are children.
Today, [Thursday 4th April] according to the international calendar, marks as International Mine Awareness Day.
Three days ago, the United Nations announced that over 3,000 square kilometers of contaminated land in Afghanistan have been cleared of mines.
Currently, the process of clearing mines contaminated areas in Afghanistan is ongoing.
