JALALABAD: The provincial Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Nangarhar said that quarantine officials at the Torkham border crossing seized 504 kilograms of smuggled mangoes being illegally imported into Afghanistan from Pakistan.
According to the department, the shipment was destroyed after completing the required legal procedures and in accordance with quarantine regulations and applicable laws.
Mawlavi Abdul Sattar Mohammad, Director of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in Nangarhar, said that due to the suspension of trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, no individual is permitted to import agricultural or livestock products into the country illegally.
He added that the relevant authorities will continue monitoring border crossings and taking measures to prevent the illegal entry of agricultural and animal products into Afghanistan.
