KABUL: Amnesty International has called for an investigation into the March 16 airstrike carried out by the Pakistani military on the “Omid” drug rehabilitation centre in Kabul, saying the attack should be examined as a possible war crime.
In its latest report, Amnesty said it found no evidence to support Pakistan’s claim that the facility was being used for military purposes.
The organization also stated that no warning was issued to evacuate the centre before the strike.
According to Amnesty, its assessment of videos, photographs, satellite imagery, and eyewitness testimony found no indication that the facility contained weapons, ammunition, or military vehicles. The available evidence, it said, suggests that the “Omid” centre was not a legitimate military target.
Amnesty International urged Pakistan to conduct a transparent, independent, and impartial investigation into the attack and to hold anyone found responsible accountable.
