KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump says American forces currently have full control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump said the situation with Iran was going “very well” and that U.S. naval forces were in control of the strategically important waterway.
“We completely control the Strait of Hormuz; nobody else, only us,” Trump said.
Trump also said he does not trust Iranian officials, claiming that Tehran has repeatedly “lied” to him.
Iranian officials have so far not commented on the U.S. president’s claim.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important routes for the transportation of oil and energy, any disruption to shipping through the waterway could have significant consequences for global energy markets.
