KABUL: Afghanistan’s Supreme Court said that 16,460 prisoners have been pardoned over the past five years on the orders of the Islamic Emirate’s Leader and by decisions of the Supreme Court chief.
According to a statement from the court, the prison sentences of another 11,159 prisoners were reduced during the same period.
The Supreme Court also said that 14 military courts are currently operating in various provinces across the country.
The court added that its chief has visited several provinces over the past five years and held discussions with local officials on addressing the problems and concerns of the public.
