UNSC votes on Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations

KABUL: The United Nations Security Council tomorrow [Friday, April 19, 2024] will vote on a draft resolution proposed by Algeria on Palestine’s full membership in the UN, international media reported.

According to the reports, in a meeting held behind closed doors, last week the members of the UNSC did not reach an agreement on Palestine’s membership within the organization.

Palestine applied for the United Nations’ permanent membership in 2011, but later decided to remain as a permanent observer for a while and now has a permanent observer membership in the UN, Palestine, previously, has also sent a message to that organization and asked them to reconsider their full membership in the UN.

Observer countries such as Palestine, can participate in the meetings of the organization, and have access to important documents, but haven’t the right to vote.
