KABUL: Following the United States’ veto of the UN Security Council’s vote on Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, Barbados recognized Palestine as an independent country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country said in a statement on Friday.
Kerrie Symmonds, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Barbados, said: “If we do not recognize Palestine as a country, how can we say that we want a two-state solution?”
He emphasized that the recognition of Palestine would not affect Barbados’ relations with Israel.
Meanwhile, the US representative at the United Nations Security Council vetoed full membership of Palestine in the UN on Thursday night.
Out of the 15 permanent and non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, only the US opposed full membership of Palestine in the United Nations.
