KABUL: A United Nations delegation led by Bruno Lemarquis, the UN deputy special representative for Afghanistan, has visited Helmand province and met with Mawlavi Amanuddin Mansour, the provincial governor, to discuss the overall situation, security, stability, and economic and social development in the province.
During the meeting, the Helmand governor briefed the delegation on security and stability, economic activities, development projects, healthcare, education and agriculture. He called for greater UN cooperation in supporting development programs and addressing the needs of local communities.
Lemarquis thanked Helmand authorities for their cooperation and described the Afghan government’s efforts to maintain security, strengthen stability and create conditions for economic and development activities as important.
The meeting also highlighted the need to expand alternative livelihood opportunities for farmers, secure funding for development projects and find international markets for cotton and other agricultural products from Helmand.
