Qomi appreciated IEA for removal of Helmand’s water obstacles

KABUL: Iranian Ambassador and Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Hassan Qomi, has expressed gratitude to the Islamic Emirate for removing obstacles to the flow of water from the Helmand River to Iran, deputy spokesman of the IEA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal said in a statement on his X account.

In a meeting with the acting Foreign Affairs Minister of the Islamic Emirate Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Qomi appreciated the recent positions taken by the Islamic Emirate regarding the Israeli occupation regime’s aggression in Gaza and its attack on the consular section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Syria.

Iran’s Special Representative for Afghanistan emphasized the importance of water as a key factor in the relationship between the two countries and expressed hope that the flow of water from the Helmand River would continue to Iran.

Meanwhile, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, called relations between the two countries friendly and asked for its expansion.

Mawlavi Muttaqi added that after several years of drought, Helmand’s water levels have increased, and it is now flowing towards Iran.

It should be noted that securing water from the Helmand Sea has been a priority for Iranian officials in recent years, and it was provided by the Islamic Emirate last year.
