British-Iranian man arrested over suspected RAF Fairford plot

KABUL: British counter-terrorism police have arrested a dual British-Iranian national in connection with an investigation into a suspected plot involving RAF Fairford, a military airbase in western England used by U.S. forces.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts, according to Reuters. He is the sixth person arrested in the investigation.

Five British men were previously arrested near the airbase on suspicion of terrorism and explosives-related offences. They were later released on police bail without charge, while investigations continue. Police have said they are examining whether a foreign state may have been involved.

British authorities have publicly raised the possibility of Iranian involvement. Iran has denied any role in the incident, while the investigation continues and police have not announced a final conclusion on Tehran’s involvement.

The arrests followed reports of three suspicious vehicles near RAF Fairford. Police found petrol in the vehicles but no viable explosive devices, according to Reuters.
