Trump says U.S. could intensify strikes on Iran after midterm elections

KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Washington could intensify its bombing campaign against Iran after the November midterm elections if the two sides fail to reach an agreement acceptable to the United States.

In an interview with TIME published Thursday, Trump said he considered the war with Iran necessary to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He also said reaching a peace agreement with Iran appeared unlikely under the current circumstances.

Asked whether the United States could resume or increase bombing after the midterm elections, Trump replied that it was “possible,” without providing further details.
