KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, says poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has fallen to near zero following measures taken to prevent poppy cultivation and drug production.
Speaking at the eighth meeting of the “Moscow Format on Afghanistan,” Muttaqi said the fight against drugs is not merely a domestic issue but a regional and international concern, and that effectively combating the problem requires joint cooperation among countries in the region.
He stressed that alongside preventing poppy cultivation, alternative livelihood opportunities should be provided for farmers, while access to markets and opportunities to export legal agricultural products should also be facilitated.
