KABUL: Fritz Langauer, an Austrian trader, says significant progress has been made in the production and weaving of Afghan carpets, describing the developments as encouraging news for Afghanistan’s carpet weavers.
According to a reporter from Omid Radio, Langauer made the remarks during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Afghanistan Carpet Union and a number of Swedish traders, on the sidelines of the Fifth Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) International Exhibition in Kabul.
He said Afghan and Indian carpets differ significantly, adding that Afghan carpets possess distinctive beauty and quality in several respects.
Expressing optimism about the future of Afghan carpets, Langauer said they are expected to gain a stronger position in international markets in the near future.
He also noted that buyers in the United States and Europe pay particular attention to carpet colors and designs.
According to Langauer, Afghan carpet weavers have succeeded in attracting the attention of international markets and producing carpets that meet global standards.
