Lavrov calls for political, diplomatic solution to Yemen crisis

KABUL: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called for a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis.

Speaking at a press conference after the ninth round of strategic dialogue between Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Lavrov said the situation in the southern Arabian Peninsula was deteriorating, TASS reported.

He said Russia and GCC member states support a political and diplomatic solution to end the Yemen crisis.

Lavrov added that conditions for resolving the crisis already exist, including a 2023 roadmap developed with Saudi Arabia playing an active role.

The GCC comprises six countries: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
