LPG prices rise in Pakistan after trade routes with Iran blocked

KABUL: The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Pakistan has increased by 100 Pakistani rupees per kilogram over the past week.

LPG traders say more than 4,500 tonnes of LPG are stranded in cargo trucks inside Iran.

Mohammad Ali Haider, deputy head of the LPG Marketing Association of Pakistan, told local media that the closure of trade routes and changes to import policies have disrupted LPG imports and supplies to the Pakistani market.

According to him, Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce cancelled previous trade facilities with Iran on October 16, resulting in the suspension of commercial activity through key border crossings between the two countries.

Traders warned that LPG prices could rise further if border routes are not reopened soon and imports do not return to normal.

They also expressed concern about increased demand and potential shortages as winter approaches.
