KABUL: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, met with Edem Wosornu, Operation Director of the United Nations Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal spokesman of the ministry said in a statement on his X account late on Sunday.
In the meeting, Edim expressed her condolence and sympathy with the recent flood-affected families and said that she would soon send her teams to the affected areas.
Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, expressing pleasure over the efforts of OCHA in response to the recent floods in the country, said: “Afghanistan does not play a role in the deterioration of climate change but rather suffers from this phenomenon.”
He added that countries that contribute to climate change have been called upon to take responsibility.
“I would like to convey this message to you that the more Afghanistan has suffered, the more it needs help and its position should be heard in international climate change meetings and it should have access to financial funds related to climate change,” the statement quoted Minister Muttaqi as saying.
The UN representative said that they have always conveyed the voice of Afghanistan to the international community and tried not to mix political goals and humanitarian aid.
