Afghan ambassador to Pakistan discussed refugees’ problems with UNCHR chief

ISLAMABAD: The Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Sardar Ahmad Shekib, in a meeting with Filippo Grandi, chief of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) discussed the problems of Afghan migrants living in that country, the embassy said in a statement.

Sardar Ahmad Shekib said that the issue of migrants should not be exploited for political purposes.

He also called for a trilateral meeting between Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The statement quoted Filippo Grandi as saying, “We know that the forced expulsion of Afghan migrants from Pakistan has a political dimension.”

According to the statement, he also expressed his support for holding a credible and unified trilateral meeting and the issuance of migrant cards in Pakistan.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has traveled to Islamabad in recent days to assess the situation of Afghan migrants in Pakistan.
