KABUL: In a meeting with President of Russia Vladimir Putin, during his visit to Baku, the president of Azerbaijan, said that his country wants to join the BRICS group, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Baku has officially announced its request to join the BRICS group to the relevant authorities.
Azerbaijan needs the approval of its request by the members of this group of the world’s economic powers to join the BRICS.
BRICS is a group of emerging economic countries that, according to experts, are expanding and growing.
This group has been in existence for a decade with the presence of China, Russia, Brazil, India and South Africa.
Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates joined the BRICS this current year (2024).
Saudi Arabia is also under consideration for how to join it.
