MoU signs to expand railway between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan

KABUL: The officials of the Ministry of Public Works and officials of Turkmenistan have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand the railway line between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, the ministry said in a statement today.
According to the ministry, Mullah Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat, the deputy head of the railway department, signed the memorandum on behalf of Afghanistan.
The Memorandum includes the development of the Torghundi port in Herat and the Torghundi-Sandber railway line in Turkmenistan, said the statement adding the railway line from Torghundi to Sandber is reported to be 22 kilometers long.
Work on both projects is set to begin in Turkmenistan and continue towards Herat province.
