KABUL: The Zabul’s Omari Dam, worth 127 million Afghani, during a ceremony has been inaugurated in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Ministry of Water and Energy said in a statement.
Speaking in the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar called the opening of the Dam as a significant step towards the development of Zabul province.
He assured the people of Zabul and all of Afghanistan that the Islamic Emirate will fulfill its commitments.
The Omari Dam is located four kilometers from Qalat, the capital of Zabul province, and it has been constructed to control seasonal flooding, store water, and irrigate agricultural lands, said the statement.
The dam with 23 meters high has the capacity to store 2.9 million cubic meters of water, said the statement, adding that it’s expected that the dam generate 61 kilowatts of electricity and irrigate 560 hectares of farmland.
It should be said that based on the decree of the IEA Prime Minister, the dam from Tori Dam has been changed to Omari Dam.
