Interaction with Islamic Emirate beneficial for enhancing region’s economics and security, Lavrov

KABUL: The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in the 6th Moscow Format Consultation meeting on Afghanistan, said that his country is seeking to strengthen political and economic relations with the Islamic Emirate.

Praising the efforts and achievements of the Islamic Emirate in the fight against terrorism and narcotics, he said that the Russian companies are ready to invest in the agriculture, mining, and transportation sectors in Afghanistan.

He said: “After the recent development in the region and the world the connectivity position of Afghanistan has increased.”

Referring to the participation of the Acting Minister of the Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, in the Moscow format, he said: “We cannot discuss the issues of Afghanistan without the participation of Afghan representatives.”
The Russian Foreign Minister also called the positive interaction with the Islamic Emirate necessary for the security and economic development of the region and called on the West to release the frozen assets of Afghanistan and cancel the sanctions imposed on the banking sector of the country.
