KABUL: The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) said in a statement today that wheat production has increased by 10% this year compared to the previous year in the country.
According to the statement, 4.83 million metric tons of wheat have been harvested this year.
The authority estimates that 12.2 million hectares of land have been cultivated with wheat across the country this year, in which 1.38 million hectares were irrigated wheat, while 736,000 hectares were rain-fed.
According to the statement, 70% of the country’s agricultural lands were cultivated wheat this year.
The statement further said that the total wheat requirement for the country is 6.82 million metric tons, revealing a shortfall of 2 million metric tons. It is worth mentioning that the data provided by the Statistics and Information Authority was obtained using satellite imagery and subsequent analysis.
