KABUL: Spanish government officials have said that a four-day flood has claimed the lives of 214 people and left dozens missing across the country.
According to Reuters, Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, speaking with a TV, said that the recent flooding was unprecedented in modern Spanish history.
“7,500 military personnel have been deployed in two phases—2,500 and 5,000 troops—to assist search and rescue teams,” he said, calling deployment as the largest relief operation in conditions of peace and security in the country.
Local authorities in the Valencia region reported late Saturday night that 211 people had died in that area alone.
Also, the floods have inflicted significant financial damage on residents, although the exact cost is not clear yet.
