Mullah Baradar, Russian delegation emphasized enhancing cooperation in trade, transit and investment

KABUL: The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, met with a delegation led by Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council, here in Chahar Chinar palace, according to a statement from Arg on Monday.

The meeting, which was attended by a number of cabinet members, political relations between Kabul and Moscow, economic cooperation, enhancing trade and transit, and Russian investment in Afghanistan, have been discussed, the statement said.

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar expressed Afghanistan’s interest in playing an effective role in strengthening the North-South economic corridor, aiming to solidify regional economic connectivity.

In the meeting, Sergei Shoigu stated that their visit to Afghanistan was at the directive of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He expressed Moscow’s desire to increase cooperation in bilateral relations and indicated that practical steps would be taken soon to develop these relations.

The delegation announced Russia’s support for the Afghan Trans project, noting that Russian state companies are interested in investing in Afghanistan’s mining, transport, and agriculture sectors.

At the end of the meeting, both sides emphasized the need for extensive cooperation in trade, transit, and investment.
