KABUL: The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan during a ceremony signed a contract for a new cement plant worth $145 million in Logar province with the private sector.
In the ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar Akhund, government officials including the acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, local officials, and a number of Mujahidin, according to a statement from the deputy PM office for economic affairs on Tuesday.
The contract has been signed between the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and private sector, the statement said.
Located in the Altamur area of Logar province, the factory will have the capacity to produce 2,500 tons of cement daily. The project will create hundreds of job opportunities for Afghan citizens, and the private company will also provide health and educational services to local residents.
