Turkmenistan to purchase 150,000 tons of Afghan-made steel rebar in 2025

KABUL: The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said in a statement on Tuesday that the neighboring country of Turkmenistan has shown interest in purchasing 150,000 tons of Afghan-made steel rebar in 2025.

The ministry’s spokesman, Akundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, said that Afghanistan has achieved self-sufficiency in steel rebar production.

“At least 40 factories are operational in the country, in which three to four thousand people are directly employed in these factories. Afghanistan is engaged in trade with regional countries. Last year, we exported 60,000 tons of steel rebar to Pakistan, and this year, we have a contract to export 150,000 tons to Turkmenistan,” he said.

The Afghan government has banned the import of goods that are produced in Afghanistan and are not needed.
