Extraction of Kandahar marble mine will begin, spokesman

KABUL: Spokesman of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum Hamayon Afghan said in a statement on Monday that the extraction contract for the Dara-e-Noor marble mine in Kandahar province would begin with an investment of $6.2 million.
The contract will be signed between the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and a Turkish company on Tuesday.
Under the agreement, the contracted company will be responsible for the exploration, extraction, and processing of marble from the Dara-e-Noor mine.
The contract will be valid for a period of 10 years, said the statement.
The Spin Marble Mine, commonly known as the Dara-e-Noor Marble Mine, is located along the Kandahar-Herat highway in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province.
