KABUL: As a result of two powerful explosions at a Pakistani army base in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, approximately six armed militants infiltrated the facility, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday night.
A Pakistani security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the assault and stated that 12 soldiers stationed at the base were killed, while 30 others were injured.
However, some reports suggest that the number of casualties among the Pakistani forces may be higher than officially announced.
The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Bannu, the area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the incident occurred, has previously experienced assaults by TTP.
