Development of alternative township underway in Torkham

KABUL: Based on the decree of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate, construction has begun on a new town in the Dhaki area of the Momandara district in Nangarhar province.

To assess the land for this town, Nangarhar Governor Mawlavi Mohammad Naeem Akhund, along with the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Mawlavi Hamdullah Nohmani, and representatives from the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture, Industry, and Commerce, have evaluated the land in the Dhaki area.

Governor Mawlavi Naeem Akhund emphasized the significance of this town’s construction, stating that it will pave the way for economic growth in the region, urban organization, solution of traders’ issues, and acceleration of governmental services.

Officials noted that in Torkham, only those governmental departments that are essential for the services along the hypothetical line will remain; other government offices and commercial activities will be relocated to the new town.

They added that this initiative will help reduce congestion in Torkham, enhance the organization of customs and trade affairs, and provide greater conveniences for traders.

Local officials in Nangarhar have stated that the exact date for the completion of the town will be announced upon finishing the technical aspects of the project.
