KABUL: The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Shaikh-ul-Hadith Mawlavi Hebatullah Akhundzada, in a decree has banned the forced marriage of young girls in the country.
The decree on preventing undesirable customs in society said: \u201cNo one has the right to forcefully marry young girls.\u201d
\u201cResponsibility and obligation of young girls lies with their father and elder brother, and no one has the right to force or coerce them,\u201d said the decree.
The dowry is a woman’s basic right and no one has the right to take it back, said the decree, adding that without a dowry, it is wrong to receive any money under the name of a dowry, holidays, and special occasions.
Holding various ceremonies, including Paivazi is unlawful, the decree said, ordering to prohibit them.
The expenses after pilgrims return from the Hajj and Umrah ceremonies, as well as cooking in the family of the deceased, have been banned by the decree.
