KABUL: Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, in a post on his X account stated on Friday evening, that the validity of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 has ended, and the council’s restrictions on Iran should be lifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Resolution 2231, adopted by the UN Security Council in 2015, was the result of negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group (the United States, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany) and was set to remain in effect until October 18, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under this resolution, Iran’s nuclear program was limited, and sanctions against the country were to be lifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that with the approach of October 18, 2025 (the expiration date of Resolution 2231), the Security Council’s restrictions should be revoked, and Iran should be removed from the council’s agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated: “Illegal actions pursued by a few isolated governments have been rejected by the overwhelming majority of countries in the world. Those who insist on distorting reality will only become more isolated in their current path.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Araghchi underscored that Iran’s sovereign rights are neither negotiable nor subject to political pressure. He asserted that “the rule of law” should prevail instead of “bullying.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His comments seemingly refer to the efforts of the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany to activate the snapback mechanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
