KABUL: Amid ongoing tensions between European Union leaders and the United States, Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has stated that Europe will not succumb to Donald Trump’s “bullying.”
Reuters reported on Tuesday night, that Macron made the remarks during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he emphasized that his country and Europe “will not passively accept the law of the strongest,” as he believes this would lead to the “subjugation” of the European Union.
Macron added, “We prefer respect over bullying and the rule of law over violence.”
The senior French and EU official stressed that the Union would defend territorial integrity and the rule of law, which could include heavy trade sanctions.
Previously, Donald Trump had threatened to impose tariffs of up to 200% on goods from France due to Macron’s refusal to join the “Gaza Peace Delegation” and his opposition to the Greenland acquisition proposal.
