KABUL: Uzbek senior officials have announced that the volume of transportation between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan reached 2.6 million tons by 2025.
Jauolan Vakhabov, a government official in Uzbekistan and head of the International Central Asia Institute, after meeting with Mawlavi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, Deputy Minister for Public Works of Afghanistan, said in a post on his X on Friday night, that out of the total, 2.2 million tons of rail transport between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan occurred via railway in 2025.
During the meeting, ongoing projects between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan related to railway development, regional connectivity initiatives, technical cooperation, and infrastructure investments to enhance transportation and trade routes in the region have been discussed.
The head of the International Central Asia Institute emphasized that expanding trade volumes and economic activities between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan enhances the importance of rail transport as a key element in regional logistics and transit.
Both parties underscored the significance of advancing regional railway initiatives that include Afghanistan, particularly the “Afghan-Trans” railway as a promising strategic corridor connecting Central and South Asia.
