KABUL: Former President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, stated that the completion of the first phase of the TAPI gas pipeline project is a key priority for the country\u2019s energy programs.
In an interview with Al Arabiya, he stated that the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 and emphasized that Ashgabat welcomes the participation of international companies in this major energy project.
The TAPI gas pipeline is considered one of the region’s important energy projects, transporting gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.
Turkmen officials have mentioned that the first phase of the project might be completed by the end of 2026, reaching the city of Herat in Afghanistan, but no clear timeline has been announced for the remaining segments of the project.
Turkmenistan, known as one of the world’s major natural gas reserves, currently exports most of its gas to China due to restrictions on export routes. Berdymukhammedov stated that diversifying export routes within the energy policy is a fundamental goal for the country.
Having served as president from 2007 to 2022 before handing over power to his son, Serdar Berdymukhammedov, he still holds influence as a “national leader” in Turkmenistan’s political structure.
In his conversation with Al Arabiya, he noted that the United States supports the TAPI project, and its implementation will strengthen economic and energy cooperation in the region, although resolving security and political challenges is essential for further progress.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
