KABUL: Continued shelling by Pakistani military forces has struck civilian areas along the disputed Durand Line in eastern Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, leaving at least three people martyred and five others injured, Afghan authorities said.
Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said in an audio statement on Wednesday that several areas in Paktia, Paktika, Nuristan, and Khost Provinces were targeted by Pakistani forces.
According to him, the attacks involved heavy weapons including mortars and artillery, in the village of Kot in Patan District of Paktia, three people were martyred and three others wounded.
In a separate incident in Zazi Maidan District of Khost Province, two more civilians were injured and a mosque was damaged during the shelling, he said, adding that homes belonging to civilians were also hit in the Shkin and Barmal Districts of Paktika Province.
However, no casualties were reported there as the area had been evacuated beforehand.
He further said that parts of Kamdesh District in Nuristan were also struck by Pakistani mortar and artillery fire, destroying several homes and killing around 20 livestock.
The developments come as members of the United Nations Security Council recently expressed concern about civilian casualties in the ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
