KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump is interested in ending the ongoing conflict with Iran even before the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday night.
The newspaper reported that Trump told his advisers he wants to bring the war to a close regardless of whether the key maritime route is reopened, leaving that issue for later or for other countries to address.
According to the report, U.S. officials believe the primary objective of military operations, degrading Iran\u2019s military capabilities, particularly its naval forces and missile systems has largely been achieved.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of the world\u2019s oil supply passes, remains a critical chokepoint for global energy markets, and its closure has contributed to rising prices and economic uncertainty.
