KABUL: Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, has criticized the recent rise in fuel prices in Pakistan as \u201cunjustified\u201d and announced nationwide protests.
According to The News International on Tuesday, Rehman said in a press conference that his party would organize demonstrations on Friday in provincial capitals to pressure the government to reverse the decision.
He accused the government of mismanaging both domestic and international affairs and called for an in-camera session of parliament to address the situation.
Questioning official claims, Rehman asked where the oil shipments reportedly passing through the Strait of Hormuz had gone and whether they had been offloaded in Karachi or elsewhere.
The JUI leadership expressed concern after a two-day party council meeting, warning that rising fuel costs are worsening economic conditions.
