KABUL: A group of Democratic lawmakers in the United States, led by Iranian-American Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari, has introduced a resolution to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over alleged \u201cwar crimes\u201d in Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ansari confirmed the move in a video statement shared on social media, including X, late Wednesday, accusing Hegseth of violating his oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution. She further alleged that he was responsible for an attack on a girls\u2019 school in Iran that reportedly claimed the lives of 160 students, describing the incident as a \u201cwar crime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe must not only end this war, but also hold accountable anyone who has committed war crimes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to U.S. media outlet Axios, the articles of impeachment include accusations such as conducting an unauthorized war against Iran, endangering American troops, targeting civilians, mishandling sensitive military intelligence, obstructing congressional oversight, and damaging the credibility of the U.S. military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The resolution has reportedly received backing from at least eight Democratic lawmakers, including Steve Cohen, Jasmine Crockett, Nikema Williams, Sarah McBride, Brittany Pettersen, Dina Titus, Dave Min, and Shri Thanedar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
