KABUL: Donald Trump, President of the United States, has announced an indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran following the expiration of a two-week truce.
Reuters reported early today that the decision aims to create space for potential peace negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Trump reportedly said he accepted a request from Pakistan mediators to delay further military action \u201cuntil leaders and representatives can reach a shared framework and conclude talks.\u201d
It remains unclear whether Israel a key U.S. ally in the conflict or Iranian officials support the indefinite extension.
Despite extending the ceasefire, Washington has maintained its naval blockade of Iran, a move Tehran has described as a major obstacle to continued negotiations.
As of early Wednesday, senior Iranian political and military officials had not publicly responded to the announcement.
