KABUL: In a recent phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin described a U.S. ground attack\/operation against Iran as \u201cunacceptable and dangerous.\u201d
Russia\u2019s state news agency TASS, citing a call held on Wednesday night, reported that the conversation between Putin and Trump was their 12th call in roughly 16 months since Trump returned to power.
According to Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, the Kremlin leader said Trump\u2019s decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran was the right move. Ushakov said Putin believes the step would contribute to dialogue and overall stability.
The report added that Putin warned of the inevitable and highly damaging consequences, not only for Iran and its neighbors, but for the broader international community\u2014 if the United States and Israel were to again resort to violent actions.
Ushakov also characterized the U.S.\u2013Russia leaders\u2019 call as \u201cfrank and businesslike,\u201d noting it lasted about an hour and a half.
At the international level, he said the leaders\u2019 main focus centered on Iran and the Persian Gulf.
