KABUL: American sources have confirmed that the United States and five of its Middle Eastern allies have prepared a draft resolution seeking authorization from the United Nations Security Council to permit the use of force against Iran in support of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to JNS, citing a U.S. official, the proposal is backed by the United States, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The draft resolution, which has reportedly been revised in an effort to secure support from Russia and China \u2014 two key allies of Iran, calls on Tehran to halt attacks, mining operations, and the imposition of fees on shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposal was reportedly drafted by the United States and Bahrain, while Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar have endorsed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The United States Department of State expressed hope that the resolution would be brought before the UN Security Council for a vote in the coming days and receive broad backing from member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
