KABUL: According to the results of the United Kingdom\u2019s local council elections, the ruling Labour Party led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer has suffered major losses nearly two years after taking power.
Reuters reported Friday night that British voters punished the Labour Party at the height of its political power during the local elections.
Despite the setback, Starmer said he accepts full responsibility for the defeat but stressed that he will not step down from office.
Speaking to reporters in Ealing, the British prime minister admitted that his government had made some \u201cunnecessary mistakes\u201d over the past two years.
Starmer said his administration had failed to give people enough hope since winning power and acknowledged that voters are frustrated by the slow pace of change rather than with his government.
He pledged to announce \u201cthe steps necessary to deliver the change that people want and deserve.\u201d
According to the election results, the Reform UK party led by Nigel Farage, a prominent supporter of Brexit, emerged as the biggest winner of the local elections, securing around 1,000 council seats.
