KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has met with Bjorn Hansen, Norway\u2019s newly appointed special envoy for Afghanistan, to discuss political and regional issues.
Afghanistan\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement released Monday night that the two sides exchanged views on regional developments and bilateral relations.
According to the statement, Hansen said notable progress had been made in Afghanistan in areas including security, counter-narcotics efforts, and other sectors, adding that greater cooperation was needed to help normalize Kabul\u2019s relations with the international community.
The newly appointed Norwegian envoy also said Norway has longstanding historical ties with Afghanistan and has consistently sought to play a constructive role in the country\u2019s stability.
Meanwhile, Minister Muttaqi expressed appreciation for Norway\u2019s \u201cpositive relations\u201d with the Islamic Emirate both before and after 2021.
He added that the stability established in Afghanistan should be utilized effectively and that recent developments in the country should pave the way for expanded international cooperation.
